Leadership and Experience
Thank you for taking time to visit my web site. I'm excited for this opportunity to once again run for the MRH Board of Education and represent the families of our community on the board.
My greatest achievement in life is my two children, Michael (22) a 2017 graduate from MRH and Matthew (18) a student at MRH High School. Our family has proudly called Maplewood home for the last 25 years. Our family is active members of our community. My husband, Mark, served as Mayor of the City of Maplewood from 2001-2009 and is actively involved with bringing the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts programs to the youth of north St. Louis county and a former board member of MRH Youth Sports. Together, my husband Mark and I were named the MRH District's "Family of the Year" in 2007. I have served on the Board of Education since 2008 and have sat on many school and city committees.
My passion in life is being an advocate for children and those in need. In my profession, I have served as the Executive Director for Children's Miracle Network for twelve years and served three years as the Executive Director of the Missouri Credit Union Charitable Foundation. Currently, I am the Assistant Vice President of Community Development for St. Louis Community Credit Union. This work has allowed me to meet families and communities that are in real need and are bravely dealing with the challenges of poverty and financial inequality issues each day. Everyday I am mindful of and motivated by the mission of the credit union movement which is People helping People.
In addition to my work, I am honored to be the current MRH School Board Secretary and past President for three years. I have volunteered my time as the President of the MRH Early Childhood Center PTO and have been and active member on many committees, including the Teaching & Learning Council, Preschool Parent Advisory, District Calendar Committee, CSIP, Long Range Planning Facilities Committee, TIF Commission and as a Coordinator of the Props. C&M and Y&S campaigns. In 2007 our family was honored to be awarded the MRH School District's "Family of the Year" award. My family is also a proud supporter of Joe's Place and Mosaic Services, which both serve the MRH community.
As a child, I attended public school where my mother was a member of the School Board in our small community for over 20 years and also was a teacher. I continued my education at SIU-E graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Speech Communication and Public Relations. After college I held the position of Marketing Director of WIL/KHITS radio stations for several years, where I met my husband Mark, before spending a few years at Y98 & KEZK. Following the passing of my mother, I changed careers to focus more on my family and my passion for helping children and people.
Our family is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish in University City, where the Langston family has been a life long member and contributor.
In my spare time (which rarely seems to happen), I enjoy reading, playing baseball in the backyard with my boys, cooking new dishes, watching our son Matthew perform in MRH High School theater and cheering on him and the Blue Devil's varsity baseball team, visiting Disney World, watching and attending St. Louis Cardinals and Blues hockey games.
